ISML 2009 ends today (at least the main tournament). Hinagiku has beaten Shana by 11 points once again upsetting the top seed. With that, Hinagiku is crowned the champion of ISML 2009. Congratulation Hinagiku! Shana had a good run here with this being her third loss for the entire year, but she couldn’t win where it mattered most. Read more…

X6 Hanato Kobato (KOBA) 1451 1242 Shirai Kuroko (RLGN) Madrid

Shana’s winning streak has ended at 57. Hinagiku upsets Shana sending her to the loser’s bracket. I’m disappointed, but I gotta hand it to Hinagiku who ranks 11th. Hinagiku may be favored to take the tiara now that she secured her spot in the finals. I think the only way for her to lose is for her to lose the championship match twice.

However, Shana’s not out yet. If she can win in the loser’s bracket against Yuki or Tomoyo (the only other character to beat her in the entire tournament), she can earn a rematch against Hinagiku. Shana is my favorite to win by the way. She has also been sparked just now because of the recent OVA.

As of now, there are only 4 characters left fighting for the tiara with Hina most favored. How will this finish?

Picks: Shana > Hinagiku > Tomoyo > Yuki (sorry.)

Predictions: Hinagiku > Shana > Yuki > Tomoyo

Haruhi takes 9th place as she defeats Rin by a large amount. Go Haruhi! So Rin takes 10th, Mikuru takes 11th, and Suigintou takes 12th.

Finally, Kobato wins the exhibition matchup. That’s all good. I originally voted for Kuroko, but recently I started watching Kobato, and I liked what I saw. Actually, I would have voted for Kobato if I watched earlier.

Next up: Yuki vs. Tomoyo in elimination, Taiga vs. Kagami for 7th (rematch of Best Moe finals?), and others

ISML Second Round Results

X3 Ayanami Rei (EVA) 1528 1118 Miyanaga Saki (SAKI) Madrid

Congratulations to Shana and Hina for advancing. One of them is likely to take the tiara.

Unofficial, but Suiseiseki takes 16th place and Shinku takes 15th. Unless there will be a matchup between these two.

And Saki loses to Rei by over 400. I have a feeling that if Saki was in ISML, they’ll be like Bamboo Blade; they did well to make it to the final rounds of Saimoe, but did poorly in the league. Kirino and Tamaki both made it to the quarterfinals last year, but their records were only 6-57 and 7-56 respectively. Not very good records.

By the way, Louise is leading the relegation tournament. Her status is different from the others. I’ll check that out later.

UPDATE: I finally had the mind to look into the relegation tournament. This is a tournament where the top 14 characters below .500 compete for a chance in ISML 2010. The top 5 characters at the end will advance to the 2010 ISML preliminary tournament. I think Louise is already locked as one of the top 5.

Anime Saimoe Quarterfinals- Taiga vs. Isumi

Result:

Taiga (Toradora!) 812, Isumi (HnG) 736

Taiga for champion!

Palmtop Tiger wins and is one step closer to being champion! This match was closer than expected, but Isumi just couldn’t pull it off. Taiga’s next match could be a difficult one. Either she goes up against Nodoka, a Saki favorite, or Louise, her predecessor.

Anime Saimoe Round 4- Group H Finals

Result:

Nodoka (Saki) 890, Nagi (HnG) 874

Nodoka avenges Saki by eliminating Nagi by only 16 votes. This match was really close. It even looked like Nagi was gonna win.

Now we have 4 Saki characters in the top 8 which beats the record for the amount of characters representing the same series in the top 8 (Clannad held that record with 3 last year). The list of those who made it is after the jump. Read more…

Anime Saimoe Round 4- Group G Finals

Result:

Mihoko (Saki) 770, Eruru (Utawarerumono) 441

As expected, Mihoko takes this match easily. Eruru was powerful back in 2006, but too much time has passed for her. At least she made it this far. Read more…

Also, congratulations to Kyou, Hinagiku, and Yuki for beating their respective opponents. Most notably, Yuki defeats Haruhi this time around.

Next up, the first set of characters will get eliminated from the tournament. I’ll post the matchups as the match rolls around Monday.
